Where To Go

Everything But Water

Everything But Water, located on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side is a great place to go if you are looking for any type of beachwear. They have every kind of bathing suit you could ever want including suits from Kiini, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and other similar brands. I highly recommend the bathing suits from L*Space – they come in many different colors and have a more athletic feel to them, while still maintaining a cute look. Also some of these bathing suits are reversible too, which is great for changing up your look on your next beach vacation. This store offers a huge variety of bathing suits, in all different colors, patterns, and designs. Everything But Water also sells sundresses, cover-ups, shirts, rompers, and other kinds of clothing to wear to the beach, as well as athletic clothes with cute, trendy patterns – perfect for your early morning workout before hitting the beach. When you stop into Everything But Water I highly recommend getting a pair of Sea Star Espadrilles – they are great for boating, walking along the beach, or even swimming or surfing with because they are waterproof and can dry in fifteen minutes! In their small store, Everything But Water sells anything you could ever need for the perfect trip to the beach – and all of their products are offered in various styles and colors, so you are bound to find something you like! For more information or to purchase Everything But Water’s products online, visit their website at http://www.everythingbutwater.com.

TurnStyle

Have you heard about TurnStyle – the mini-mall in a subway station? Whether you have or you haven’t you should check it out. Head over to 8th avenue between 57th and 58th streets and into the subway station; the signs to TurnStyle will indicate you to go down the stairs. Underground there is a hidden shopping area. Along the main corridor of the station there are stores, stands and restaurants set up for people to enjoy. Among these are Lush, Dylan’s Candy Bar, Pressed Juicery, Doughnuttery and so much more! We walked around and stuck our heads in various shops, enjoying the unique atmosphere of TurnStyle. After looking at all the restaurants and much contemplation we decided to get salads from Ellary’s Greens for lunch which were delicious. Ellary’s Greens also offers a wide variety of smoothies and sandwiches as well as coffee. All the restaurants looked great, and it was hard to choose just one. I highly recommend Pressed Juicery if you are looking for a smoothie or juice, but they are quite expensive, although maybe not as expensive as other juice places around the city. Fika and Two Beans are also great places to grab a coffee at TurnStyle. To learn more about TurnStyle visit their website at http://www.turn-style.com/.

Bloomingdale’s

Bloomingdale’s, with locations on the Upper East Side at 59th street and in SoHo, is a great place to go whether you’re shopping for yourself or for a gift. Bloomingdale’s is perfect for all shoppers because they sell clothes, jewelry and accessories at a variety of prices. The store is separated by the type of clothing you are shopping for as well as price. Bloomingdale’s sells all of the most popular brands, and everything from sweatpants, to bathing suits, to handbags and scarfs. It is a great place to go if you are searching for a certain type of clothing but don’t necessarily have a specific brand you are looking for. For clothing for teenage girls I recommend heading to the third floor which has all the brands suitable for this age demographic, including Alice + Olivia, Free People, Aqua, All Saints and more. For lunch at Bloomingdale’s on 59th street I recommend going to David Burke where they have everything from salads to soups and omelets. They also serve their signature popovers which you must try if you go to the restaurant. For coffee or dessert, head to Forty Carrots on the 7th floor. Forty Carrots also sells regular lunch food, but I have only gone there for the frozen yogurt and the coffee, both of which are delicious. Bloomingdale’s also has Forty Carrots at their SoHo location. For more information about Bloomingdale’s or to shop online visit their website at www.bloomingdales.com

9/11 Memorial and Museum

Whether you are trying to become more educated on the subject of September the 11th or honoring a family member who died on this day, you will have a fantastic experience going to visit this memorial and museum. The memorial is not only a symbol and metaphor for this horrible day, but it also honors each person who died. Around the rim of the memorial, there is a name for each person who passed away. Below is a picture of the memorial.

9-11-memorial-2

The museum is filled with fire trucks, fire gear, office supplies, parts of the building, quotes from bystanders, pictures, videos and so much more from this historical day. Like the memorial, the museum also honors each person who lost their life. They do this by having a picture of each person labeled with their name on a couple different walls. There is also a screen where you can look up and read about each person who died during this tragic incident. There are also a series of videos about what happened on this day and even a timeline going down to what happened during each minute of the attack. If you want to visit the museum, I suggest you buy your tickets ahead of time to ensure that you will be able to enter the museum at the time you would like. You can buy your tickets at http://www.911memorial.org/visit-911-memorial-museum. Enjoy your visit!
